The Challenge
We are committed to addressing the urgent climate crisis that disproportionately affects rural communities worldwide. Over 3.3 billion people are highly vulnerable to climate impacts, with rural communities facing severe risks to their agriculture, water security, and livelihoods. Small-scale farmers, who produce one-third of the world's food, are particularly threatened by increasing extreme weather events and changing precipitation patterns.
Rising temperatures and irregular rainfall patterns are threatening food security and agricultural productivity in rural areas.
Deforestation and land degradation are accelerating climate change while destroying vital ecosystems that rural communities depend on.
Limited access to climate-smart technologies and sustainable practices prevents rural communities from effectively adapting to and mitigating climate change.
Traditional knowledge and rural solutions are often overlooked in global climate action strategies, despite their proven effectiveness.
OUR STRATEGY
Climate-Smart Agriculture & Food Security
We empower rural communities to build resilient food systems through climate-adaptive farming practices. Our program combines drought-resistant crop varieties, soil conservation techniques, and smart irrigation systems with traditional knowledge. We aim to help 10,000 farming families increase their yields by 40% while reducing water usage and building climate resilience. This includes establishing seed banks, implementing agroforestry, and developing early warning systems for extreme weather events.
Rural Clean Energy Transition
We accelerate the adoption of renewable energy solutions tailored for rural needs and livelihoods. Our initiatives focus on implementing solar-powered irrigation systems, biogas digesters for agricultural waste, and mini-grids for village electrification. By 2025, we plan to help 5,000 households transition to clean energy, reducing both emissions and energy poverty while creating local jobs in renewable energy maintenance and operations.
Ecosystem Protection & Restoration
We partner with rural communities to protect and restore critical ecosystems that provide natural climate resilience. Our approach combines community-led forest management, watershed restoration, and sustainable land use planning. Each project creates immediate economic benefits through payment for ecosystem services while building long-term climate resilience. Target outcomes include restoring 10,000 hectares of degraded land and establishing community-managed conservation areas that protect vital water sources.
